why i left storm record
What have you been up to lately?
YQ Have been
inside the studio recording working on my next album and working on my next
video to my single titled “TONIGHT and i have also been travelling outside Lagos
You are no longer with STORM RECORDS, what happened?
YQ Nothing, STORM
is my family, storm did a lot for me. it was a platform for me and I respect
Obiasika so much, that man has made believe in a lot of things. We are still
good and my contract expires, in life things happen for one reason or the other.
No grudges.
What is your relationship with 2CONEPT Entertainment?
YQ 2CONCEPT is
owned by my childhood friend and we had a very strong relationship, I am still
repping too concept, i am not under any
label right now, I am working on my own
kind of movement called industry music, it is like a team, like we have the g
unit, so this what I am trying to create
cos you need to take a bold step,
most of the big acts have to take a bold step to get to where they are today. I
am hoping on GOD to make a positive move.
What would change if given a chance to change something in
the Nigeria
music industry ?
YQ the structure, the structure is not there,
apart from that, apart from that Nigeria
music has come to stay, our music is doing well outside Nigeria.
HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC ?
Music is a universal thing right now, we see
American
artiste experiment on African music, I do r n b, hip hop but Nigeria
music is
generally referred to as`afro beat world
wide, am just playing along, I am still young in the game, i
am still working on my second album, I still have a lot to learn, I do
afro with pop but if am on the street i call it rhyme and tungba
because their has to be some kind of Africa beat that is the tungba.
What is the greatest lesson you have learn coming up in the
industry ?
YQ: the greatest
lesson I have learn is to be me, to just stay real, there is nothing like been
original , i am not trying to take act up, i am staying humble , you have to
be ready to take anything cos a lot of
people would insult you, a lot of people would not lke you but you just have to
keep doing you. You would be at some places and some people would purposely get
on your nerves, so what I have learn is to be patience .
THIS DAYS A LOT OF NIGERIAN ACT WANT TO BREAK INTO AMERICAN MARKET, WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON THIS TREND AND WHICH WESTREN
ACT WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO A COLLABORATION WITH.
YQ : I am hoping on God, back in the days, i have always wanted to do a song with akon, I would
love to do a song with chris brown, if i want to do something with a rapper it
would be nas, there are also a lot of Jamaican act I would love to work with. I
am just waiting for GOD time and I am still working , I want to do something
with wiz kid, saucekid, i have a lot of things coming my way
